Coorg - The scotland of India!

As i write this post in the hot hot weather of Hyderabad and Last year, this time, we[Hubby and Me] were happily roaming in the pleasant weather of coorg. How i wish i can go back in time or go to coorg this year as well!<sighs>.

Coorg also known as kodagu means 'dense forest on a steep hill'.This little town [actually its known as coorg district as its a province in the British era] is situated amidst the dense forests of western ghats, nestled at an elevation of 1525mts on the southwestern end of Karnataka. It is famously known as the scotland of India.Acres and acres of Lush green coffee plantations, breathtaking views and the pleasant weather sums up coorg.

Day 1

We boarded the Rajdhani express from Hyderabad from the secunderabad station at 18:35, its an overnight journey of around 12hrs to Banagalore. Reached bangalore at around 6:30am the next day. Coorg is around 7hours journey from bangalore approx 200miles. We took a bus to coorg from bangalore's majestic bus stand at 7:30am, rajahamsa, airavatha are the good ones, you would not feel that much discomfort while travelling.I personally like to travel by public transport if its 2-3 travelers, if more, a private one would be better.

We reached coorg at 3:00pm, checked into the hotel. In the evening , our first visit was to the namdroling monastery ,famously known as the 'golden temple' located at Bylakuppe, kushal nagar. It is the largest teaching center of Nyingmapa - a lineage of Tibetan Budshism in the world. As soon as you enter the temple the first thing which catches your eye are  the vibrant blue, red, orange and golden colors everywhere and the monks sprawling across the campus. The shopping complex nearby offers you wide variety of Tibetan goods from the china ware to the chopsticks.I bought a bell which resembles the prayer bell at the monastery which you can see in the below pictures as well and a pair of chopsticks which i haven't used till now ! After the sunset we came back to the hotel , had our dinner. There were some authentic coorg culture dances going on in the resort at the dining area to entertain the guests. After dinner, we had a long walk across the lawns of the resorts and called it a day!
